Former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has said that the government’s decision on the Chagos Islands issue is a huge betrayal of the country.

In a statement, Dunya called on the government to reverse its decision to advance the interests of another country rather than protecting the country’s own interests in the case. She also called upon the government to discharge its duties mandated by the Constitution and law of the land.

Dunya, who is also the vice-president of the OIC of The Maldives National Party (MNP), said it was a decision to leave some of the Maldives’ territory under the control of other countries.

“This is one of the biggest national issues facing the country right now,”

said Duniya Maumoon

She also stated that it is in the highest interest of the country and the Maldivians are concerned about it the most.

In the case, Dunya said that the government changed its policy on the issue of separation of the waters between the Maldives and The Mauritius.

“The MDP government’s decision to hand over most of the country’s territory to Mauritius is the second time that the party has taken such a decision. In 2010, a similar decision was taken by a maldivian minister without informing senior foreign ministry officials. The decision could not be implemented this time because it was very brave, skilled local diplomats who intervened,” Dunya said.

Dunya also said that the area is rich in underwater resources and is also a fishing area. Dunya also said that any decision to take the territory under the control of the Maldives would be detrimental to the country’s sovereignty and a violation of the pledge and pledge to protect the country’s territorial security.

Today’s president, foreign minister and attorney general should take responsibility for this. The president and the foreign minister can’t get away with it just because this decision is legal. The foreign minister is entrusted with the responsibility of promoting and protecting our interests in the outside world. It remains to be seen whether he has fulfilled his responsibility in this case. We will also have to see if we have consulted experts in the foreign ministry or not

said Duniya

Dunya further said that it should be clear to all Maldivians that the oppose the decision to giving up their national interest to another country.
