China Maldivian Cultural Association’s (CMCA) Sister School Program would be hosted in GN Atoll Education Center in Fuvahmulah this year. The sister school program will be conducted in collaboration with Overseas Experimental School in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, China.

CMCA Chairman Mohammed Rasheed said that the 100 Sister School Program will be launched at a virtual meeting between the management of the two schools. CMCA congratulates the school management and students for being selected. Rasheed also thanked the Mayor of Fuvahmulah City Ismail Rafiq for his cooperation and efforts in calling the school for this programme. Rashid also welcomed the management of the Overseas Experimental School, which is participating in the program from China.

“It is believed that under the Sister School Programme, two schools will be able to work together. In this regard, it is hoped that exchange programs, talent development and information exchange will provide opportunities for two schools to benefit,” said Rasheed.

The 100 Sister School Initiative was launched in 2020 by the Education Department of Gansu Province, Foreign Affairs and the Gansu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. However, the programme has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, CMCA conducted the sister school program in collaboration with Addu High School. As part of the program, students from the school were allowed to travel to China and also a delegation consisting of students from a Chinese school came to Addu City to experience a homestay with high school students. The programs were then suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CMCA is a privately initiated association with the aim of learning and promoting the culture and language of Maldives and China and strengthening relations between the two countries.

The CMCA is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Maldives.
