Hira School in Addu City Hithadhoo has won the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize 2022 in the Global High School category for the South Asian Region.

The prize was awarded at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week that kicked off with a ceremony at the Dubai Exhibition Center. The ceremony kicked off on Monday with the Maldivian President Mohamed Solih in attendance.

Hira School uses well water for its general purpose usage and requests students to bring their own drinking water from home. The project that won the Zayed Sustainability Prize looks at solving the problem with a sustainable rainwater harvested solution.

The Zayed Sustainability price was launched in 2008, is the UAE’s pioneering global award in sustainability and tributes the legacy of the founding father of UAE – the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
