Ahead of World No Tobacco Day on 31 May, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the opening of applications for its annual World No Tobacco Day Award.

The award aims to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals, organisations, and government agencies working to combat tobacco use in the Maldives. The initiative forms part of the country’s broader efforts to promote a healthier, tobacco-free society.

Through this award, HPA seeks to acknowledge those actively engaged in tobacco control, including efforts in advocacy, public awareness, education, and policy implementation, while encouraging continued commitment in this field.

Eligibility is open to individuals and entities that have made significant contributions to reducing tobacco use and protecting public health. This year’s award places special focus on initiatives aligned with the theme, “Unmasking the appeal – countering nicotine and tobacco addiction.”

HPA has invited eligible applicants and nominators to submit their entries via email to [email protected] before the deadline of 2 May.
