Dhiraagu announced that 4,500 runners have signed up for the 16th Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, scheduled for October 24th in Hulhumalé. The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, the largest running event in the Maldives, is held annually and is recognized by World Athletics. It is the only national run in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar. This year’s event is part of their ongoing initiative to support NGOs focused on protecting children’s rights.

This year’s run will involve 13 associations. The five associations with the most nominations will each receive MVR 200,000. Participants will also contribute MVR 100 per registration, which will fund a special bib. Runners can nominate their preferred NGO during registration, and the five NGOs with the most nominations will also receive MVR 200,000 in aid.

The total prize pool for the event is MVR 280,000, with awards for the top male and female runners in each category. The prize breakdown is as follows:

– Half Marathon: 1st Place: MVR 25,000, 2nd Place: MVR 15,000, 3rd Place: MVR 10,000 – 10k and 5k Open Category: 1st Place: MVR 10,000, 2nd Place: MVR 8,000, 3rd Place: MVR 6,000 – School Categories (Under-13 and Over-13): 1st Place: MVR 5,000 voucher, 2nd Place: MVR 3,000 voucher, 3rd Place: MVR voucher – Resort/Office Teams: Champion Team: MVR 10,000, Runner-up: MVR 8,000, Second Runner-up: MVR 6,000

This year’s event is supported by official partners Island Runners Maldives, Elite Runners, Naseer Sports Academy, Saaid Sports, and Legacy Fitness. Runners geared up for the half marathon at 2:30 am, followed by the 10k run at 5:30 am, and the 5k run at 4:30 pm.
