President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu recently established the Digital Transformation Council, which he will chair, to drive the “Maldives 2.0 – Digital-First Nation” vision. This council, formed on the recommendation of the cabinet, will be responsible for guiding and overseeing the implementation of a detailed roadmap designed to achieve this digital transformation.

“Maldives 2.0” represents a significant move towards shaping the future of the Maldives through digital advancements. The President has emphasized that this initiative is about creating a digital-first nation for every citizen, every island, and future generations.

To achieve this vision, eight key pillars have been identified. These include digital identity and trusted transactions to ensure secure access to services, open data sharing and governance to create interconnected digital environments, and robust cybersecurity measures to protect national systems. Additionally, the plan encompasses a modern legal framework for digital trust, the development of secure and sovereign digital infrastructure, and the implementation of citizen-centric e-government services. Furthermore, it involves sectoral digital transformation across healthcare, education, justice, and parliament, along with fostering ICT ecosystem development and innovation to empower Maldivian talent and startups.
