A special telethon titled “Maldivians with Palestine,” organized by PSM to aid Palestine, will feature 13 fund boxes placed across the Male’ area alone. The telethon is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 12 noon tomorrow and will be inaugurated by the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu.

Sharing the latest preparations for the telethon on TVM’s morning program, PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir emphasized that the placement of fund boxes prioritized areas with high foot traffic. “Fund boxes will be set up in locations including the Hulhumale’ Phase 2 Hiyaa Tower area, Hulhumale’ Hospital, Velana Building area, STO Building area, MPL, STELCO, and ferry terminals. Additionally, a box will be placed near the STO supermarket and on the TVM premises, among other locations,” Zeena said.

All fund boxes, except for the one at the TVM yard, will remain in place until sunset. The TVM premises box will stay open until 10 pm tomorrow. For security, police, girl guides, and scouts will be deployed in areas where fund boxes are located.

To facilitate contributions from those unable to reach the fund boxes, online deposits have been made available. Zeena noted that two special accounts have been opened for this purpose, with the account numbers to be shared at the start of the telethon.

PSM has also planned a special children’s program at the TVM premises tomorrow evening, featuring activities like face painting and drawing. Unlike previous telethons where charges were applied, PSM will not charge any fees for participation in this telethon. “We are seeking an independent auditor to ensure the process is as transparent as possible,” Zeena said, adding that the auditor selection process will be conducted under CSR initiatives.

Efforts will be made to ensure the money collected from the telethon reaches the Palestinian people through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Zeena stated that the funds will be channeled through a UN agency, specifically the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), which was established under a General Assembly resolution to assist the Palestinian people.

The telethon is open to everyone who wishes to participate and contribute to the cause.
