President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has lauded his recent visit to India as a significant success, emphasizing the potential benefits for the Maldivian people and the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations. The President shared his insights with PSM News during the visit.
President Muizzu was in India to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is embarking on his third term. The visit was made at the special invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
Speaking to PSM News, President Muizzu expressed his satisfaction with the visit, describing it as beneficial not only for the Maldives but for the broader region as well. He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the invitation and for the productive meetings held during the visit.
“It has been a successful journey for the country. It’s been a great journey for our region as well. I am very happy that I have been invited by the Prime Minister of India. I would also like to thank you for the meetings that have taken place during this visit,” President Muizzu stated.
During his visit, President Muizzu met with Prime Minister Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. He expressed confidence that these meetings would further enhance the close ties between the Maldives and India.
“The Maldives and India’s close ties will help the Maldives achieve good things. In the future, we hope that our relationship will be even better. Our friendly relations will facilitate the best for the Maldives and the welfare of the Maldivian people,” President Muizzu said.
This two-day visit to India marks President Muizzu’s first international trip since assuming office. It demonstrated that the relationship between the two countries remains strong and highlighted the potential for further cooperation and development.
