Ibrahim Shujau (Shujaa), Vice-President of the PNC and Male’ City Councilor from Hulhumale’ Constituency, has stated that the government’s handling of the search for missing persons will be investigated during the next PPM government.
Shujaa stated in a series of tweets, “Many Maldivians have gone missing since the formation of this government. During this regime, a large number of people went missing with no knowledge of their whereabouts, and many of the cases have yet to be resolved, with investigations still ongoing.”
Shujaa claimed that the government is doing a poor job of searching for missing people and conducting investigations to determine what happened to them. He also stated that the government’s current approach to locating missing persons will be investigated in the future.
Members of the party’s parliamentary group, according to Shujaa, will meet with the family of Mohamed Aasir, who is currently missing in Addu.
Shujaa also mentioned that Mohamed Azhaan, who had recently gone missing from Hulhumale’, was discovered dead several days later. Azhaan’s body had begun to decompose by the time the body was discovered. While Azhaan was found near where he was last seen, his body was recovered after residents complained to police about a foul odour emanating from the area.
Shujaa went on to say that with the change of government, all such cases will be probed beginning November 17, 2023.
