Senegal defeated Qatar 3-1 in the FIFA World Cup group stage on Saturday.
Boulaye Dia of Senegal scored the game’s opening goal in the 41st minute despite Qatar’s energetic play. Famara Diedhiou of Senegal extended Senegal’s lead in the third minute of the second half.
Qatar’s only goal of the match, as well as the country’s only goal in the World Cup thus far, came in the 78th minute, thanks to Mohammed Muntari. However, Senegal’s lead came six minutes after Bamba Dieng’s header.
Qatar’s chances of qualifying for the tournament’s group stage are extremely slim following tonight’s defeat.
Senegal is making its third World Cup appearance with Senegal previously reaching the World Cup quarterfinals in 2002. Moreover, Senegal also won the most recent Africa Cup of Nations.
