Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal has been honoured with the award to be included in the International Fellows Hall of Fame of the National Defense University in Washington, DC.
The letter of honour was presented to Major General Abdulla Shamaal at the International Fellows Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held at the Sydney Sheraton Grand Hotel on Tuesday and the memento of the International Fellows Hall of Fame was presented by The President of the National Defence University, Lt. Gen. Mike Plain.
In addition, Lt. Gen. Mike Plain and Major General Abdullah Shamal unveiled the portrait of the Chief of Defense Force, which will be placed in the International Fellows Hall of Fame.
The International Fellows Hall of Fame is an honour to be presented to those who have been ranked second by the National Defence University and have not been appointed as chiefs of military personnel after graduation at the highest level, as well as to senior officials of the government and international organizations who have done outstanding work for international peace and stability. The honour is one of the highest honours conferred to the graduates of the National Defence University. Major General Abdulla Shamaal was the first Maldivian to receive the award from the National Defence University.
Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal has won gold in the Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies program conducted at the National Defence University from 2011 to 2012. In this regard, Major General Abdulla Shamaal obtained “A Plus” in all subjects of the program and achieved a grade point average of 4.0. Major General Abdulla Shamaal was also selected as the “Distinguished Honor Graduate” of the course.
Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal and four individuals from four countries were presented with the award. Speaking at the ceremony, the President of The National Defence University highlighted the important achievements of Major General Abdulla Shamaal in the military life as well as in the field of education.
