The Criminal Court denied the request by Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to request to issue a travel ban order against former president Yameen.
The PGO request to hold Yameens passport was refused in hearing held on Monday. In which the state prosecutor requested the court to issue an order to hold the passport and noted that they have enough evidence that would implicate Yameen.
However, the former president lawyer, Ahmed Shiyaz denied all clams made by the state. The lawyer also had pointed that former President would not leave the Maldives and noted that his passport expired January this year.
Based on this evidence the judge has stated that he could not issue a travel ban on an expired passport and has refused to hold a request by the PGO office.
Currently, the state has charged president with a money laundering in the sale of Fuggiri island.
