Maafushi MP Hussain Riza has been elected as the President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). MP Riza, who was appointed to the JSC on June 4, secured his new position through a vote among the commission’s members.
The JSC, comprising 10 members including the Speaker of the Parliament, plays a crucial role in overseeing the judiciary. Riza, who holds a bachelor’s degree in law, previously served as the administrator of the criminal court.
The election of the president and vice-president of the JSC is conducted internally by its members, ensuring leadership is chosen from within the commission. Riza’s legal background and experience in the criminal court are expected to bring valuable insights to his new role.
