As previously pledged by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Administration has revealed the expenses incurred for Vice President H.E. Hussain Mohamed Latheef’s official visits to Geneva, Switzerland, and the People’s Republic of China. The Vice President’s visits were made to participate in the high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75) and to attend the ‘China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation’ organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), respectively. These visits took place between December 4 and December 14.
The details of the Vice President’s trips were shared during a press conference held by the Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Shahyb.
According to the Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, the total cost of the Vice President’s visits to China and Geneva was MVR 3,189,544.58 (three million one hundred eighty-nine thousand five hundred and forty-four Rufiyaa, fifty-eight Laari). This includes the total ticket cost for the two visits, which was MVR 2,413,029.54 (two million four hundred thirteen thousand and twenty-nine Rufiyaa, fifty-four Laari).
The total cost of the Vice President’s official visit to China was MVR 180,735.90 (one hundred eighty thousand seven hundred and thirty-five Rufiyaa, ninety Laari). The Chinese government made all arrangements for the accommodation, food, and domestic travel expenses for the Vice President and his delegation during the visit. The Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office stated that the total cost of the Vice President’s visit to Geneva was MVR 595,779.14 (five hundred ninety-five thousand, seven hundred and seventy-nine Rufiyaa, fourteen Laari).
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge entails disclosing the costs incurred on official overseas trips undertaken by the President and the Vice President within 15 days of the conclusion of the respective trips.
