Vice President H.E. Hussain Mohamed Latheef called to embrace the spirit of democracy, not just in words but in deeds, and to empower every citizen to engage, contribute, and shape the destiny of their nation.
Speaking at the Third Congress of Democratic Montenegro held in Danilovgrad, Montenegro on Sunday, the Vice President stated that Democratic Montenegro is a young political party that has achieved so much in its short history of existence. He commended the party leadership’s efforts in promoting democracy. Furthermore, he highlighted that democracy is the backbone of society and that it ensures the well-being of the entire community.
“There cannot be a free society without democracy. There cannot be a just and equal society without democracy. There cannot be happiness and prosperity in a society without democracy,” the Vice President stated.
The Vice President pointed out that the Maldives is a young democracy that held its first multi-party elections in 2008, and how both countries could learn from each other. He continued that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was elected with a clear mandate from the populace to uphold the nation’s sovereignty, independence, and peace, as well as to advance and prosper it. “Our government is ready to work day and night, rain or shine, to make sure we deliver what we promised to the people of our nation,” stated the Vice President.
The Vice President participated in the Congress at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Aleksa Bečić, Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Internal Policy, European, and Foreign Affairs and President of Democratic Montenegro. He is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Montenegro. He is accompanied by Ambassador-at-Large, H.E. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
