The President of Maldives National Party (MNP) and Member of Parliament for Dhangethi Constituency, Mohamed Nazim has said that the constitution does not allow for lockdown of one of the powers of state.
Nazim said this in reference to the fact that parliament sittings have not been conducted and have had to be halted recently.
Nazim, who is also running for the presidency under MNP’s presidential ticket tweeted that the Parliament is one of the powers of the state.
He said that the constitution does not allow things to be done in such a way that the power of the state is locked up and that the parliament should fulfill its responsibilities to ensure free elections.
He also called on the government to take the initiative to ‘unlock’ the parliament and allow it to fulfill its constitutional and legal responsibilities.
