Mal\u00e9, Maldives<\/strong> \u2013 AO News is celebrating its 15th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its journey as a trusted media platform and a champion of youth development in journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally launched in 2011 as\u00a0Addu Online<\/em>, the platform began by serving audiences in Addu City before expanding its reach across the southern region under the name AO News. The organisation also holds a pioneering place in the country\u2019s media landscape as the first online media platform in the Maldives to be led by a woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just about reporting news\u2014it\u2019s about empowering voices and creating opportunities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

During the COVID-19 pandemic, AO News played a vital role in community engagement by training young individuals as television presenters and launching reporting across four southern atolls using local dialects. This initiative helped ensure continued access to information while amplifying regional voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past 15 years, the organisation has trained more than 500 youth in journalism, many of whom have gone on to build successful careers in leading media outlets and related fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AO News has also contributed to media development at the grassroots level by supporting schools in establishing media clubs, providing students with platforms to learn and express themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation\u2019s impact has extended beyond national borders, with two of its journalists receiving international awards. In addition, its CEO and Founder has been recognised with multiple national and international accolades for contributions to journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
