Police have issued a red notice to former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed, who is accused of sexual harassment and assault on female employees during his time in the Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interpol has issued a red notice against Ali Waheed in response to the court summons issued against him, according to police. Police said they were working with the Prosecutor General’s office to get the red notice out as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Red Notices are issued for fugitives wanted for either prosecution or to serve a sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement agencies all around the world to identify and temporarily detain a person awaiting extradition, surrender, or other legal action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the fact that the local police have stated that a red alert has been issued, it has not been published on the Interpol website, which lists red notices against nine Maldivian countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali Waheed had gone to the UK for medical reasons early last year and had refused to attend court proceedings in the case against him despite a summons from the Criminal Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
