Criminal court has dismissed all charges of corruption on former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor today.
Adeeb was accused of 7 charges on corruption in relation with Maldives Marketing and Public Relation Corporation (MMPRC) scandal. Among the charges include charges on money laundering, charges on corruption and charges on misuse of power.  Adeeb had agreed to all charges under a plea deal made with the administration initiated by Adeeb himself. However, during the virtual court hearing held on July 12, Adeeb stated he agreed to all charges after the former Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham and Heads of Police during that time assured him medical treatment from abroad.
During the hearing Judge Ismail Rasheed raised several questions regarding the plea deal made between Adeeb and the administration. Adeeb was freed from all the charges after the judge ruled out the deal made by the administration was invalid.
Tuesday’s Criminal Court verdict has now been appealed at the High Court by the state.
