COVID-19 has kept millions at their homes under lockdown. In Maldives, it has been more than three months since schools closed. During these difficult times, teachers are continuing the effort of teaching via online methods. Some schools have adopted their own televised classes whereas others are conducting Google Meet classes every day.

Eswaran Shanmugasundaram, born in Vallioor, Tamil Nadu, India has taken a new approach towards online learning. While being a teacher at Seenu Atoll School, he has initiated his new YouTube channel called “Physics Around You”, which been a giant leap towards E-Learning Experimental Physics. Eswaran, who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Physics) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, believes this to be a perfect way to ensure continuity of learning for students. In an interview with AO News, Eswaran said that his YouTube channel mainly aims to reach students at this difficult time so that their learning is not halted. He believes that every learner who loves Physics will be benefited from his short and simple, yet informative videos.

“Normally I conduct classes with activities, but due to the lockdown, I thought I would continue my teaching activities through online platform in a way that the students can learn from home”, said Eswaran. He also mentioned that his videos are based on IGCSE Physics syllabus and its motives.

“I use minimum resources for this. I use my phone to create, edit and upload the videos” said Eswaran who focuses on using the least of resources to ensure maximum learning.

At the age of 39, Eswaran has helped hundreds of students in his subject and his area to achieve the highest of results. He is currently the Head of Science Department at Seenu Atoll School in Addu City, Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo.
