Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported the total number of COVID-19 cases in Maldives has risen to 648.

HPA stated a confirmed 30 cases were reported on May 7 taking the total number of cases of COVID-19 in Maldives to 648. Among the confirmed cases reported for COVID-19 today includes, 5 Maldivian nationals, 3 Indians and 22 Bangladeshi. Among the total 648 cases includes 216 Maldivians and 432 foreign nationals.

Additionally, Maldives has reported 3 death cases of COVID-19, an 83 year old female who passed away on Aril 30, a Bangladesh national who passed away on May 5 and an 80 year old male who passed away on May 7.

The first case of COVID-19 found in the Greater Male’ Region was on April 15. Since then the number of cases has escalated quickly. Other islands have also reported COVID-19 case including Thakandhoo, Manadhoo, Uligamu, Naradhoo and Milandhoo.

Moreover, the administration has extended the period of State of Public Health Emergency declared on Maldives until May 31. The lock down placed on Greater Male’ Region on April 15 has also been extended for an additional 14 days. 18 individuals fully recovered from the virus since the first cases of the virus reported in Maldives on March 7.
