The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maldives has risen to 19.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveled an additional case of the virus yesterday taking the total to 19 positives cases of COVID-19 in Maldives. The new case reported by HPA on April 1 was a local who arrived from United Kingdom (UK). This is the fourth local who tested positive for the virus out of the 19 confirmed cases. All 4 locals who tested positive for COVID-19 arrived from UK.

Regarding this, HPA decided to test all individuals returning to Maldives as a safety precaution. Moreover, HPA is testing all locals who recently arrived from UK, including the Speaker of parliament Mohamed Nasheed who was in UK from March 11 to 14.

Out of the 19 cases of COVID-19 in Maldives 13 individuals have fully recovered and will be released after a 30 day quarantine period. All 13 individuals were foreign nationals. The current active 4 cases in the country are 4 locals. Two Italian nationals tested positive for COVID-19 returned to their county before receiving the test results.
