Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced all Maldivian nationals who recently arrived to Maldives from United Kingdom will be tested for COVID-19.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC), Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez stated all locals who recently arrived from UK and all persons who came in contact with them will be tested for COVID-19. Mabrouq also stated locals who will be tested are individuals who arrived to the country from March 14 to March 19. He further stated HPA is conducting contact tracing of all individuals who came in contact with them. Additionally, HPA stated there are more than 50 individuals who recently arrived from UK including the Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed who also travelled to UK from March 11 to 14.

Moreover, out of a total 18 cases of COVID-19 in Maldives, the country reported only 3 locals who tested positive for the virus. All three locals who tested positive arrived from UK. Regarding this, HPA also decided to test all individuals arriving to Maldives as a safety precaution against COVID-19.
