From left to right, future councilor Faiz and current councilor Shukuree

MDP’s candidate for S.Hulhudhoo, Mr.Hussain Faizu-Rahman, guarantees his position as the future councilor of the town after his sole competitor Mr.Abbas Wafir decided to withdraw his name.

Mr.Abbas Wafir was his sole competitor after PPM candidate Moosa Bushree, and Independent Candidate Mohamed Yaaseen (Seenu) withdrew their names respectively.

In an interview, Mr.Abbas Wafir said that he had sent a formal request to Elections Commission on the 11th of February, requesting his name to be withdrawn.

In the interview, Abbas also mentioned that the huge delay of the Local Council Elections caused by the pandemic gives him no hope for the future as it is now. Moreover, he said that he wants Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo to form a separate island council, outside of Addu City.

Faiz is currently the Operation Supervisor at WAMCo in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo. He is loved by many as the “people’s person” who is ready to devote his term to serve his people.

Currently, the neighboring Meedhoo town, has two candidates competing for the election, Ms.Aminath Saliha from PPM/PNC and Ms.Rasheedha Ibrahim as an independent candidate.
